Warriors Suffer First Loss in Overtime to Panthers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the year Saturday afternoon as they fell to No. 4-ranked Davenport in overtime, 18-17, at the DU Turf Field in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play.

In a game that saw four lead changes and six ties between two of the top team teams in the conference and the NAIA, the Panthers would use a 6-0 run over a seven-minute span to hold an 11-4 advantage over the Warriors. Tech would respond quickly though, using a 5-0 spurt of their own in a five-minute stretch to cut the deficit to 11-9 and they would head into the locker room trailing 12-9.

Heidi Tremaine would start a 5-0 run in the second half as the Warriors would erase a 14-10 deficit to take their first lead at 15-14 with 12 and a half minutes left in regulation as Bailey Childs scored with the woman-advantage.

Davenport would take a 17-16 with just over six minutes left in the second half, but Dakota Dawson would notch the equalizer with 4:18 on the clock to make it a 17-17 game. Both teams would have free-position opportunities in the final two minutes of the half, but both goalies stood tall with the saves to end the game into sudden-death overtime.

With both teams playing a woman-down a minute into the three-minute session, the Panthers would get a clear and control the pace as Brooke Knoll beat Sydney Davis for the game-winning goal with 1:27 on the clock and send the visitors home with their first loss of the season.

Heidi Tremaine would score a team-high five goals while Sam Vikstrom added four goals, seven draw controls, five caused turnovers and three ground balls. Davis would finish the game with 10 saves in goal.

Tech (8-1, 4-1 WHAC) returns to action Monday as they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a conference battle with Concordia. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. from Cardinal Stadium.
