Warriors Sweep Golden Eagles To Start Busy Week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 24-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team improved its winning streak to five games with a sweep of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Cornerstone on Tuesday afternoon, winning, 10-1, and, 5-2, at DeWitt Field.

Reigning WHAC Player of the Week Glen McClain got the scoring started in the first inning with a double to right center and scoring Dante Biagini, who reached on a four-pitch walk. Keith Tatum would then plate McClain with a double of his own while Matt Bandor drove in courtesy runner David Barksdale with a sacrifice fly to center to give Tech a 3-0 lead.

The first inning offense would prove more than enough for starter Cody Kellar, who picked up his seventh win of the season while striking out eight batters and scattering six hits over six inning of shutout baseball.

McClain would add two more RBI's as he drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth while driving in Charlie Sipe with a line drive single in the sixth. Tatum and Tighe Koehring finished the game with two hits and two RBI's each.

The Golden Eagles would hold the Warriors scoreless through six innings as the visitors left eight runners on base, but would break through in the seventh as Sipe came around to score on a wild pitch after ripping a double to right center and advancing to third on a passed ball.

Taylor Nychyk would make it a 2-0 game in the eighth as he knocked in Branson Dossen while Tech added on three more runs in the ninth to make it a 5-0 game, and while Cornerstone made things interesting by putting up a pair of runs, Josh Wiesman would close the door and get the last two outs to complete the sweep.

Jared Harvey was masterful through eight inning of shutout ball, allowing just six hits and striking out 11 batters. Sipe, Biagini, McClain, Koehring and Newsom each recorded two hits in the nightcap.

Tech (21-7, 11-3) starts a seven-game home stand Friday as they host USCCA foe Cleary in a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from Warrior Field.
