FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 24-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team started off its weekend series with Lawrence Tech on Saturday as they defeated the Blue Devils, 14-2, in seven innings, in their first-ever meeting on the diamond in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at Warrior Field.
Charlie Sipe led things off with a bang as he homered to right center on the first pitch in the bottom of the first after flashing his leather in the top of the inning with a web-gem catch to rob the Blue Devils leadoff man of a base hit.
Tech would explode in the second as they added seven runs on seven hits to extend their lead to 9-0.
Dante Biagini would double down the left field line to score Sipe and
Dominic Giuliani to lead things off,
Keith Tatum and
Tighe Koehring had back-to-back RBI single and
Matt Bandor capped the inning with a three-run homer off the scoreboard in right center field.
The 9-0 cushion would prove more than enough for starter
Johnny Crawford, who allowed just two runs while scattering six hits over five innings and striking out four to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Warriors would put up another crooked number in fourth inning as Sipe, Biagini, Tatum and Koehring all adding to their RBI totals. Sipe, Biagini, Koehring and Bandor all finished with three RBI's with Sipe going 3-4 at the plate.
Tech (24-7, 12-3) returns to the diamond Sunday as they conclude their series with Lawrence Tech in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from Warrior Field.
