SIOUX CITY, Iowa. – The fourth-seeded Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to fifth-seeded Tabor, 67-58, in the first round of the 26
th annual NAIA Division II National Championships, presented by Mercy Medical Center and Seaboard Triumph Foods on Wednesday afternoon at the Tyson Events Center.
Keanna Gary would give the Warriors the lead on their first possession of the game, but the Blue Jays would respond with a 10-2 run go ahead with 5:48 to go in the first quarter. Tech would respond with a 6-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 12-10 at the 4:08 mark, but Tabor would end the period leading 21-15.
The visitors on the scoreboard got out to a 10-4 run to extend their lead to 31-19 with 4:30 left to play in the first half, their largest of the game, and continue to control the game as Tabor took a 36-28 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Warriors would start to find some offensive rhythm in the third quarter as
Taylor Seiss would pour in 10 points on 4-6 shooting, including 2-3 from the three-point line, as the Orange and Black outscored the Bluejays 17-13 in the quarter. Tech would cut the deficit to two with two minutes left in the period, but Tabor would hit a runner in the lane at the buzzer to take a 49-45 advantage into the final quarter of regulation.
The Bluejays would extend the lead back up to nine with 4:15 remaining in the game and push their advantage to 66-55 with just under a minute left in the game as they finished off the Warriors, 67-58, to advance to the second round on Friday.
Gary finished with a team-high 15 points and four rebounds, while Seiss added 14 points in her final game for the Orange and Black.
Haley Cook and
Kendall Knapke chipped in 12 and eight points, respectively, while each grabbed six rebounds each.
Baylee Rinehart would add eight points off the bench.
Tech finishes its season with a record of 25-8.
