HOWELL, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team was swept by United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) foe Cleary in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 in game one before dropping an 11-3 decision in five innings in game two at Parker Sports Complex.
Despite out-hitting the Cougars 7-3 in the opening game, the hosts would push a run across in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice to score the only run of the game. Tech would have the bases loaded in the fourth with two outs but the hosts would wiggle out the jam and escape with the shutout intact.
The Warriors would get three more runners into scoring position over the next three innings but were unable to capitalize on any other of their opportunities as they dropped the first game, 1-0.
A leadoff walk in the second inning of game two would start a six-run inning for the Cougars, who added five hits while drawing two more walks to get ahead of the Warriors.
Kelsey Robinson would put Tech on the scoreboard in the next frame as she came around to score from first following a throwing error by Cleary while
Alexis Vargo drove in
Caitlyn Walter with a single to left field as the visitors cut the deficit to 6-2.
Trailing 6-3 heading into the fifth inning, the Warriors hopes would turn to despair quickly as Cleary had a five-run two-out rally to make it an 11-3 game and enforce the run rule and send the visitors home with their 15-straight loss.
Tech (3-28-1) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Tuesday as they travel to Lawrence Tech for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Academy in Wixom, Michigan.
