INDIANAPOLIS. – The No. 19-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team defeated Marian, 18-7, in seven innings in nonconference action Wednesday afternoon at MU Ballpark.
The Warriors would strike quickly in the top of the first as
Keith Tatum hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in
Dante Biagini, while
Tighe Koehring knocked in
Glen McClain and
Shoma Sasaki with a double to make it 3-0 Tech.
McClain would then in a pair of runs in the second with a double of his own while Tatum followed that up with an RBI single as the Orange and Black extended their lead to 6-1. The Warriors would tack on two more runs in the next two innings with Biagini recording a two-RBI double while
Peyton Newsom smashed his fourth homer of the season in the fourth to make it a 10-1 ballgame.
The Knights would come back with a vengeance in the sixth as they scored six runs on five hits, with four coming with two outs, as they cut the lead to 11-7. Tech would respond with their own six-run inning in the top half of the seventh, though, using five walks and four hits to go ahead 17-7 while
Jacob Gomez shut down the hosts in the bottom of the inning to close the game out.
Sasaki would finish a perfect 4-4, drawing two walks and scoring four times, while Biagini, McClain, Tatum, Koehring and Newsom would also finish with multi-hit afternoons.
Charles Dunavan picked up the win after allowing just one run in his two innings of work.
Tech (28-9) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Friday as they travel to Rochester to start a three-game set. A single nine-inning game will start things off with a 3 p.m. first pitch from Bill Shinsky Field.
