Tech Sweeps Rochester in Battle of the Warriors

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The No. 19-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team swept Rochester in a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) games, 20-2, and, 18-0, both in seven innings on Friday afternoon at Bill Shinsky Field.

Tech would get off to a fast start as they scored seven runs in the top of the first, with Tighe Koehring providing the majority of the fireworks as he launched a grand slam just five batters into the game. Rochester would get the bases loaded with nobody out in the second, but Johnny Crawford would allow just one run off a hits batsman before striking out the next three batters to get out of the jam.

Dominic Giuliani would crank a three-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 17-2 while Ryan Tom added to the home run parade with a two-run shot of his own in the seventh as the Orange and Black took the first game, 18-2.

Crawford would improve to 5-0 on the season as he pitched five strong innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

The visitors would start off game two strong by scoring six runs in the opening inning, with Peyton Newsom launching the first of two homers in the game with a three-run shot to make it a 6-0 game.

Tech would continue the offensive onslaught in the second as they tacked on seven more runs as they pounded out seven hits in the inning and took advantage of a pair of wild pitches en route to their 30th win of the season. Cody Kellar would cruise to his ninth win of the season by allowing just two hits and striking out six in five shutout innings.

Tech (30-9, 17-5 WHAC) concludes their series with Rochester Saturday with a single nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Bill Shinsky Field.
