Tech Finishes Off Warriors with Shutout Victory

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The No. 19-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team extended its winning streak to a modest five games on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Rochester in seven innings, 12-0, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Bill Shinsky Field.

The Warriors would open the scoring in the second as Shoma Sasaki was hit by a pitch to drive in Matt Bandor while Charlie Sipe knocked in Peyton Newsom with a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game.

A Keith Tatum double and Bandor single would double the lead to 4-0 in the third before Tech tacked on five more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-0. Sipe and Tatum would record RBI doubles in the inning, Glen McClain legged out a triple and Tighe Koehring knocked in David Barksdale for the ninth run of the ball game.

Three more runs from the visitors in the sixth would extend the lead to 12-0 and giving the Warriors pitching staff plenty of cushion as they recorded their second shutout of the weekend and ninth of the season.

Jason Sterrett would pick up his third win of the year with a five-inning performance and giving up just four hits while striking out a career-high nine batters.

Tech (31-9, 18-5 WHAC) returns to action Tuesday when they host crosstown rival Saint Francis in a single-nine inning game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Warrior Field.
