Tech Posts Pair of Shutouts to Finish off Sweep of Blue Devils

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 24-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team pushed its winning streak to 10 games as they swept Lawrence Tech in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field, winning game one, 8-0, before completing the series sweep with a 12-0 victory in seven innings in game two.

The Blue Devils would threaten right away as they drew a pair of walks in the first inning of starter Cody Kellar to load the bases with one out, but the Warriors leader in wins would induce the 5-3 double play as Matt Bandor made a nice stab at the hot corner to get out of the jam.

Tech would draw three straight walks to open their half of the first as well, with Shoma Sasaki coming in first off a wild pitch while Keith Tatum would clear the bases with a three-run homer to the right center field scoreboard and make it a 4-0 game.

The Warriors would add on three more runs in the fourth as Glen McClain drove in a pair of runs with a single through the right side while Tatum recorded his fourth RBI of the game with a fielder's choice to score Dante Biagini.

The offense would prove more than enough for Kellar, who went seven strong innings to pick up his eighth win of the season, allowing just two hits while striking out five. Matt Bandor would draw four walks in the game while the Orange and Black had 11 overall.

Tech would strike quickly once again in game two as they scored five runs in the opening frame, with McClain doubling home Biagini before coming around to score on a balk to make it 2-0, while Dominic Giuliani cleared the bases with a double to left and making it a 5-0 game.

Tatum would extend the lead to 6-0 with a sacrifice fly to center in the second while Tighe Koehring and Bandor recorded back-to-back RBI hits, a double and single, respectively, to put the Warriors up 8-0. Giuliani would add to his monster game with a grand slam in the fourth to put the hosts up 12-0 and give the Orange and Black enough runs for the seven-inning one rule.

Jared Harvey would pick up his fourth win of the season after striking out five batters in four innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit in the outing. Josh Wiesman would wiggle out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to preserve the shutout by striking out the final two batters of the game.

Tech (26-7, 14-3 WHAC) returns to action Wednesday when they host crosstown rival Saint Francis in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. from Warrior Field.
