GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team fell in a doubleheader to No. 8-ranked Davenport, 12-1 (F/5) and 5-1, and dropped the final game of their series with Cornerstone, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex and the Cornerstone Softball Stadium.
The Panthers would take advantage of five walks and used three hits to score seven runs in the second while they added five more in the fourth inning to go up 12-1.
Ashley Shipp would score the Warriors lone run in the third following an error from the DU shortstop, but it would not enough as Davenport took game one.
The hosts would use four hits in the third inning of game two to take the lead, but Tech would respond with an RBI double from
Hannah Foltz in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1. A two-run homer from the Panthers in the fifth would extend the lead to 5-1 while the Orange and Black went down in order in the final two innings to fall in game two.
In their third game of the day, the Warriors would fall behind early again as Cornerstone scored three runs in the first off a home run from Mackenzie Vallad. A one-out RBI double from
Caitlyn Walter would bring the Orange and Black to within a run as she battled back from a 0-2 count to lace one down the right field line.
An RBI groundout from
Lauren Ohnesorge would tie the game at three in the fifth, but the Golden Eagles come right back with a run in the sixth to take back the lead as they sent the Warriors to their fifth straight loss.
Tech (4-33-1, 1-13 WHAC) returns to action Sunday as they take on Concordia in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from the Concordia Softball Field.
