LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team fell to Madonna, 3-2, in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at University Field in a rain-shortened affair as Mother Nature caused game one of the scheduled doubleheader to be called after five innings while game two was cancelled.
The Crusaders would get out to a 3-0 lead after two innings as they used six hits in the first two frames, but would leave five batters on base to keep the Warriors within striking distance. Madonna would load the bases with two outs in the third, but
Tori Simper would get out of the jam as she caught a liner right to her on the first pitch she delivered as she relieved
Maggie McCrory.
Simper would lead off the fifth with a double to right center and come around to score two batters later on a double steal with
Cassandra Mendoza.
Lauren Ohnesorge would bring the Warriors with a run as she drove in sister
Madison Ohnesorge with a single to center, but was thrown out stretching to second and then the skies opened up and the game was called due to inclement weather.
The second game will not be made up in accordance with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rules.
Tech (3-24-1, 0-7 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they take on University of Michigan-Dearborn. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. from University Field in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
