CALEDONIA, Mich. – The No. 19-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team snapped a two-game losing skid as they defeated Davenport, 18-13, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play.
Tech jumped out all over the Panthers in the top of the first as they used eight hits, two hits-batsmen and an error to score 10 runs in the inning. A bases loaded walk to
Keith Tatum put the Warriors on the board four batters into the game while
Matt Bandor knocked in two runs with a double to left center to make it 4-0 and chase Davenport starter Caleb Leach.
Dante Biagini and
Rico Caravalho would hit on back-to-back pitches to extend the lead to 7-0 while Tatum would drive in two more runs with a single to center to cap the inning.
Davenport would slowly chip away at the early deficit though, scoring runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth and seventh to cut the Tech lead to 11-10 following a three-run seventh.
Tighe Koehring would homer to center in the eight to give Tech a 12-10 lead, but four hits for the Panthers in the bottom of the inning would drive in two runs to tie the game up with one frame left.
The Warriors would respond by sending 12 batters to the plate in the top of the ninth however, scoring six hits, with
Glen McClain recording a triple to drive in the go-ahead run, while a passed ball on a strike out, two walks and an error would allow the visitors to score four unearned runs and make it an 18-12 game.
The hosts would threaten in the bottom of the inning, but
Josh Wiesman would allow just one run to score as the Warriors won the final game of the series.
Tech (27-9, 15-5 WHAC) returns to action Wednesday as they travel to Indianapolis for a nonconference matchup with Marian. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from the Marian University Ballpark.
