Warriors Capture First Round Win at NAIA National Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The No. 6-seeded and No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team gained a monumental first win at the NAIA National Invitational as they held off the tournament's three seed and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival Lourdes, 13-12, Wednesday morning at Sirrine Stadium.

The Gray Wolves started out of the gate quick, taking an early 2-0 lead in the opening quarter. Tech would answer back with a pair of unassisted goals from Brandon Gates and Jace Childs respectively, to knot things at 2-2 by the end of the fifteen-minute period. Childs opened up the second quarter for the Warriors with a goal off the pass from Gates at 14:42 to pull ahead by one. Will McKinney looked to increase Tech's lead with an unassisted goal at 9:57 to push the 4-2 score. Lourdes would tally two more goals before Noah Puckett took the assist from McKinney in for the score to make it 5-4 Tech.

Heading into the second half of action trailing 6-5, Childs would throw in his third and fourth goals of the game at 13:25 and 10:07, respectively, for the one-goal lead. Puckett threw in a shot off McKinney at 3:55 to kick off a string of four consecutive goals for the Warriors, with Childs scoring his fifth and sixth goals, both unassisted, around a McKinney unassisted goal with under a minute remaining, closing the 11-9 score heading into the final quarter. Puckett scored at 11:43 off Gates to go up 12-9 in the final fifteen minutes of play. A final goal, his seventh on the day, from Childs at 1:55 would round out Tech's scoring for the contest and seal a lead that a late Lourdes goal would not contend with.

Childs finished the game with seven goals while Puckett added in three of his own. In goal, Joe Dosen, would collect five saves and get the win for the Warriors.

Tech (12-5) continues in the NAIA National Invite with the semifinal round as they take on Reinhardt, Friday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at Sirrine Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina.
