GREENVILLE, S.C. – The No. 4-seeded and No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team dominated in their opening round match-up of the NAIA National Invitational with an 18-8 decision over Georgetown Thursday evening at Sirrine Stadium.
In a game that remained rain soaked from the first draw, the Warriors were quick to dampen the energy of the Tigers with two quick goals from
McKenna Mesclier at 29:39 and 26:26, respectively, and one threaded in between the pipes from
Sam Vikstrom at 27:10. After Georgetown found the back of the net for their first score, Tech answered back with a string of four goals, led off from Vikstrom with an assist credited to
Heidi Tremaine at 25:19, followed by two from
Dakota Dawson at 25:02 and 24:07 and the final from
Jennifer Banks at 23:56 for the 7-1 advantage.
With just over two minutes remaining in the first half, the Warriors would begin yet another chain of a scoring attack with Vikstrom throwing in her fourth and fifth goals of the night and Mesclier earning her third goal to put Tech up 11-5 at the half.
The Warriors opened up the second half continuing their late first half scoring streak with Tremaine picking up her first goal of the contest at 24:56. Vikstrom would get her sixth and final goal of the evening off a free position shot with Dawson following her up at 19:50 to find the back of the cage.
Kristina Scott closed out the scoring attack with two goals, one off a
Bailey Childs assist and the other unassisted, to provide the 16-5 advantage at 16:20.
Two late goals from Childs would conclude the scoring for the Warriors as they went on to cruise to an 18-8 final.
Sydney Davis would earn the win in goal as she went on to collect seven saves.
Tech (15-4) continues in the NAIA National Invitational with the semifinal round as they take on SCAD-Savannah Friday at 7 p.m. at Sirrine Stadium.
