TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 3-seeded and No. 18-ranked Indiana Tech baseball fell to No. 4-seeded Concordia, 7-2, in their opening game of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament on Sunday evening at Mercy Field.
The Warriors would get on the board first in the bottom of the third as
Charlie Sipe drove in
Peyton Newsom with two outs with a single to center after Newsom lead off the inning with a double. A double from
Glen McClain would start things off in the sixth inning before scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Tighe Koehring to make it 2-0 Tech.
Concordia would cut the deficit in half in the top of the seventh with a double from Omar Prieto, but would do the majority of the damage in the ninth inning. After a leadoff single from Jacob Mass would finally chase starter
Johnny Crawford from the game, the visitors on the scoreboard would take advantage of a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt and loaded the bases with just one out in the inning.
A single from Patrick Downing would put the Cardinals up 3-2 while Micah Oetting and Ben Balgaard would drive in two runners each to make it a 7-2 game and break the Warriors seven-game winning streak.
Crawford would stifle the Cardinals for eight plus innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight in the no-decision. McClain finished the night 1-3 with two walks and a run scored.
Tech (41-11) now faces top-seeded and No. 7-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio in an elimination game for the Orange and Black on Monday. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. at St. Rita's Sports Complex.
