GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team fell to No. 10-ranked Cornerstone in three sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Mol Arena.
Olivia Niekamp led the Warriors with 11 kills and hit .208 for the match while
Autumn Stokes dished out 17 assists.
Madeline MacDonald had 10 digs and served up an ace in the loss.
Tech would take the first point of the match with a kill from Niekamp from the defending WHAC champions, but the Golden Eagles would respond with an 11-3 run, with five of those points coming from kills. The Warriors would cut the deficit to 13-9, but the hosts would finish the set on a 12-4 run to take the early lead.
The Orange and Black would fire off five straight points to open the second set and force Cornerstone to call an early timeout, but the 10
th-ranked team in the nation responded with a 14-0 to regain the momentum. Tech would take the next four points to stop the run and cut the deficit to 14-9, but the Golden Eagles would hold never surrender the lead again as they went up 2-0 in the match with the 25-16 win.
The Warriors would take the first point of the third set for the early lead only to see Cornerstone rattle off six straight points and 14 of the next 19 to get out to another big lead. Tech would attempt the comeback and they used a 3-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 22-17, but the Golden Eagles would close out the match three of the next four points to complete the sweep.
Tech (7-9, 1-3 WHAC) returns home for a conference matchup with Lourdes on Friday, September 22. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
