Warriors Falter Against 20th Ranked Crusaders

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team fell to No. 20-ranked Madonna in three sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-17), on Wednesday evening in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play inside the Activities Center.
 
The two sides would battle back and forth through the early portion of the first set, but the Crusaders would use a 10-2 run, bookend by 5-0 spurts, to take a 17-8 lead and cruise to the 25-15 win to take a 1-0 set lead.
 
Madonna would race out to a 4-0 lead in the second before getting ahead 15-8. The Warriors would respond with 10-3 rally, capped by a 5-0 run, to tie the set at 18-all, but the hosts would counter with a 7-3 run to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
 
The third set would see the two teams trading leads through the first 14 points, but Tech would gain the lead with a 10-8 advantage and they fought to stave off the sweep. Seven points later the Crusaders would hold a 15-10 lead and increase it throughout the set, and closed out the match with a 5-0 run to complete the three-game sweep.
 
Aubree Eggers recorded a team-high nine kills and hit. 400 while Autumn Stokes dished out 19 assists. Madeline MacDonald led both sides in digs with 24.
 
Tech (7-11, 1-5 WHAC) returns to action this weekend as they travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois for the Holiday Inn Express Invitation, hosted by Olivet Nazarene. The Warriors open the invite against the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) at 12 p.m. in McHie Arena.
