FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team defeated regional rival Huntington, 3-1, in nonconference action Wednesday evening at Warrior Athletic Field.
Tech got off to a fast start as they scored twice in the opening seven minutes of the game, with
Sydney Lemelin scoring her first goal of the season off a
Lily Rothert corner kick in the sixth minute while
Marina Steffke took advantage of a misplayed ball in the box in the seventh minute to make it a 2-0 Warrior lead. Rothert would be credited with the assist on the second goal as well.
The Foresters would answer back in the 23
rd minute though, to make it a 2-1 game, but a misplayed ball from an HU defender would go in for an own goal and the hosts would take back a two-goal lead just two minutes later.
Tech would hold the visitors to just two shots on goal in the second half while the Warriors peppered Huntington with eight shots on goal to keep up the pressure and finished with 14 in all.
Tori Singstock finished with a game-high seven shots on frame while
Chloe Parker made four saves in goal for the win.
Tech (2-1-0) returns to action Friday as they make the trip south on I-69 to Upland, Indiana for a battle with regional rival and No. 17-ranked Taylor. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Turner Stadium.
