Warriors Ground Golden Eagles to Avenge Lone Conference Loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team avenged its lone loss in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play this season as they defeated Cornerstone, 73-50, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center to extend its winning streak to 12 games.

Haley Cook scored a game-high 27 points while adding four rebounds, three steals and two assists while Keanna Gary added 23 points and seven rebounds. DeAnn Kauffman chipped in 11 points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench while Kendall Knapke and Rachel Bell each grabbed seven rebounds. Gary would hit the 1,000 point plateau in just her 56th game for the Orange and Black while Cook moved past the 1,500 point mark in her 88th game for Tech.

Cornerstone would open the game with a 4-2 advantage in the first two minutes of the game, but the Warriors would counter with an 11-2 run to take a 13-6 lead with 4:06 left in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles would cut the deficit down to four, but an 11-3 spurt from the Orange and Black would give them a 26-14 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Tech would come out on fire at both ends of the court in the second as they outscored the visitors 17-7 and closed the half on a 10-2 spurt while holding CU scoreless for the last 4:54 of the period to take a 43-21 lead into the locker room at the half.

The hosts would hold serve through the third quarter as they maintained at least an 18-point lead for the first 10 minutes of the second half while they grew their advantage to 25 points in the fourth. The Golden Eagles would get as close at 16 with 7:23 to go in the game, but an 11-2 run from Tech would shut the door on any potential comeback.

Tech (21-2, 12-1 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday as they host Aquinas in their "Suits and Sneakers" Game as part of Coaches vs. Cancer Week. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
