FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team concluded action at the NWCA National Duals on Friday with a sixth-place finish over at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, defeating No. 11-ranked Campbellsville, 26-11, and falling to No. 4-ranked University of the Cumberlands, 44-3.
The Warriors would find themselves down following the opening match against Campbellsville, but rebound to take the next three matches and go ahead 10-3.
Erique Early would score a 14-3 major decision at 133-lbs. while
Gaige Torres and
Justin Atkinson each picked up decision victories at 141 and 149-lbs., respectively.
The Tigers would then get wins at 157, 174 and 184-lbs. to go back ahead, but a major decision from
Mitch Roadruck, decision from
Tyler Moser and a pin at 1:50 from
Dylan Cain would give Tech the 26-11 win to move into the fifth-place match against University of the Cumberlands.
The Patriots would control the match from the get-go with a tech fall and pin in their first two matches to take an 11-0 lead over the Orange and Black. Torres would earn the Warriors lone victory in the match with an 8-4 decision, but the No. 4-ranked team in the nation would take the remaining seven matches, five by specialty wins, to hand Tech their second loss of the weekend.
Tech returns to action on January 13 as they part in the Spartan Mat Classic, hosted by Manchester University, and the Fire Duals, hosted by Southeastern University (Fla.).
