LIMA, Ohio – The No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio, 76-60, on Saturday afternoon in the Garage in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action, for their fifth straight conference win.
Darren Groves led all scorers with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists while
Max Huber had 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Dylan Phair chipped in 11 points while
Nic Williams added 10 points and five rebounds.
Joel Wincowski had nine points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
Tech would get out to a 13-4 lead over the Racers just four minutes into the game thanks to an 8-0 spurt and nearly a three-minute scoring drought from UNOH. The Warriors would extend to their lead to 17 points with 5:39 to go at 34-17, but a four minutes and 41 second scoring drought from the visitors in the final five minutes would allow the hosts to cut the deficit down to 12 points, but the Orange and Black would take a 38-24 lead in the locker room at the half.
The Warriors would open the second half on a 12-4 run as they grew their lead to 22 points at 50-28 with 16:35 on the clock, their largest lead of the game. The Racers would respond with a 9-0 run though to cut the deficit to 11 points with 10:56 left in the game, but a jumper from Phair would kick-start a 14-5 run from Tech to make it a 66-46 game with 7:06 on the clock.
The Orange and Black would hold the Racers at bay for the rest of the game with a double-digit lead as they closed out the contest with a 76-60 win.
Tech (16-3, 8-1 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, January 10, as they host Rochester in a WHAC contest. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
