FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Aquinas, 3-2, (1-0 shootout), on Friday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
"I thought we were able to battle through some adversity tonight," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "There were a few things that didn't go our way and we had to make some adjustments. I thought
Bryson Linenburg played outstanding for us in net and we were able to pick up two points in the WHAC standings."
The Saints struck first with a power play goal in the first period before
Brian Skillicorn knotted the game up at 1-1 with a short-handed goal at the 3:17 mark in the second. Francesco Coronoa put the Warriors up 2-1 with 15:48 to play in regulation, but the visitors sent the game into overtime as they scored with just 23 seconds left in the third.
After a scoreless overtime session the two sides went into a shootout. After Linenburg stopped the first attempt from Aquinas,
Jarrett Pfeiffer buried one into the net to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Linenburg would fight off the next two attempts to secure the win for the Orange and Black.
Linenburg made 31 saves in net to improve to 2-0-0 on the year while
Joey Zappa and
Stavros Soilis each recorded an assist.
Tech (4-1-0, 4-1-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday for the rematch against Aquinas. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. from the Southside Ice Arena.
