DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team picked up a vital Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) victory Friday evening on the road again the University of Michigan-Dearborn, sweeping the Wolverines 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-12) at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
Leading the way for the Warriors was
Autumn Stokes, who recorded a game high 20 assists, while
Madeline MacDonald also clocked a game high mark with 21 digs.
Jordan Aylward garnered eight kills, while
Calista Helinski and Hayilyn Cummings each followed their teammate with seven and six kills respectively, with the latter hitting a team-high .556 and the former swinging .353.
Back-to-back kills early in the opening set would get momentum going for Tech as they ran ahead 6-2. The Wolverines would find their way back into the match, knotting things at 11 a piece. A 5-1 run for the Warriors would help to give them cushion midway, providing for the four-point advantage at 16-12. Despite a closely contested remainder of the first set, the Orange and Black were able to keep their opponents at a comfortable distance en route to their 25-22 first set victory.
The second set would open much differently with Tech coming out in dominant fashion immediately. A fast 5-2 lead quickly transitioned into a 14-5 advantage thanks for a five-point run for the visiting Warriors. The Wolverines had no answer to the second set, scoring just once more before Tech would jump ahead 19-6. A three-point spurt would conclude the set as the Warriors would now take a 2-0 match lead.
In similar fashion, the Orange and Black would show up strong early in the set. Tech found themselves on an 8-1 run midway to build an 18-7 lead. Errors would be the culprit for the Wolverines as they again had no answer for the Warriors in the final frame. Despite picking up three point, to push the game to 24-12, the Warriors would close things out with a 25-12 third set score to complete the three set sweep.
Tech (17-12, 7-8 WHAC) will be back in action Saturday as they continue their road slate with WHAC foe Madonna University. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Madonna Activities Center.
