Warriors Earn Saintly Sweep in WHAC Contest Action

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team avenged an earlier loss in the year as they picked up the 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-20, 25-13) over Siena Heights Wednesday evening at home in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.

Top performers on the night for the Warriors included Jordan Aylward, who led the contest with 17 kills. Madison Park and Autumn Stokes each contributed 16 assists a piece, while Madeline MacDonald registered 21 digs and 10 assists of her own.

Tech was able to capitalize on their opponents errors early in the opening set to jump ahead 6-3. A dominating performance at the net would propel them on a 6-1 run, providing them a comfortable six point lead at about the halfway mark. Back-to-back kills from Aylward would continue to move the Warriors ahead by a large margin as they eventually would gain a 20-9 lead late. The Saints would attempt to answer, cutting the leader's margin to 24-19 before a Courtney Mack kill would seal the 25-19 first set victory.

Frame two proved a different tale, as Siena Heights would put pressure on the Warrior's 1-0 match lead. After trailing 9-4, Tech would come down with back-to-back kills from Mack, to draw within two, 10-8, of their opponents. Each team would find themselves going on short offensive runs before the score would become knotted at 16-16.With a trio of kills and a service ace from Mallory Green, the Orange and Black were able to cash in for a 2-0 match advantage.

In what began as the Saints chasing the Warriors lead in the start of set number three quickly transitioned into an 18-11 after Aylward came down with three back-to-back-to-back kills. While Siena Heights would grab a point in between, Tech's monstrous net game proved tough as their 6-0 run was good enough to push them ahead 24-12 en route to a 25-13 set score and the overall match sweep.

The Orange and Black (18-13, 8-9 WHAC) will be back in action Friday, October 26 for their "Crush Hunger Game" as they host Rochester College in a WHAC contest. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Schaefer Center.
