FINDLAY, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team had five wrestlers place in the top-eight on Saturday at the Findlay Open inside the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.
Jacob Gross led the Warriors with a third-place finish in the 165-lbs. division while
Sawyer Miller and
Matthew Miller both took fifth at 125 and 141-lbs., respectively.
Gaige Torres and
Jonathan Watkins both finished in eighth place at 141 and 157-lbs., respectively.
Gross started off the day with a major decision and pin while he moved into the semifinals with a 6-0 decision over Tiffin's Richard Screptock. After a setback in the semifinals to Ohio State's Fritz Schierl, Gross would earn third place after a medical forfeit from Keegan Driscoll of Wheeling Jesuit.
Sawyer Miller battled back from a loss in his opening match to rattle off five straight wins, including two major decisions, to earn fifth-place.
Matthew Miller kicked off his tournament with two pins and rebounded from a loss in the quarterfinals to pin his final three opponents to take fifth. Torres had two major decisions and a tech fall while he fell in the consolation semifinals, 6-5, to finish in eighth, while Watkins recorded two pins en route to a podium finish.
Tech returns to action on December 1 as they travel to the University of Indianapolis for the Indiana Little State Invitational. Meet time is set for 10 a.m. from Nicoson Hall.
