FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win on Tuesday evening inside the Schaefer Center as they defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Concordia University (Mich.) 74-63.
Logan Primerano scored a game-high 19 points while
Darren Groves notched his fifth straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while tacking on three blocks.
Dylan Phair added 12 points while
Joel Wincowski chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 12-0 lead over the Warriors and forced Tech to call a timeout 105 seconds into the contest. Concordia held the Warriors scoreless on their first eight shots from the field while a pair of free throws from Groves put the hosts on the scoreboard with 15:56 on the clock. The points from the charity stripe started a 9-0 run for the Orange and Black as they closed the deficit to 12-9 with 10:59 left in the first half. CUAA grew the advantage back up to nine points at 23-14 with 6:53 on the scoreboard. A 10-2 run from the hosts, coupled with a 6:04 scoreless drought from the visitors, made it a 25-24 game in favor of the Cardinals at the half.
Tech took its first lead of the game on their opening possession of the second half as Wincowski blew past a Cardinal defender on a layup from the Groves feed. Wincowski would start a 9-0 run a minute later following a put-back off a block with
Max Huber stamping the exclamation point on the spurt with a fast break dunk. A triple from Primerano made it a 12-point game with 14:20 to go and the Warriors never let the lead shrink below eight for the rest of the game while they grew their lead to as many as 21 points. Concordia refused to pack it in as they used an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 67-59 with 1:47 to go in the game, but a triple from Phair pushed the advantage back up to 11 and quieted the threat as the Warriors kept their home record perfect on the young season.
Tech (5-4, 3-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host Indiana University – Kokomo in a nonconference game. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
