Warriors Hold Off Blue Devils For Seventh Straight Win

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 16-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated Lawrence Tech, 74-70, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Saturday afternoon inside Don Ridler Fieldhouse to win its seventh straight game.

Logan Primerano scored a game-high 25 points and added seven rebounds and three steals while Darren Groves notched his eighth consecutive double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Joel Wincowski added 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first three and a half minutes of the game and held the Warriors to just 1-7 shooting from the field over that time. A three from Wincowski kick started the Warriors to a 12-3 run while a triple from Darnei Hairston put the Orange and Black ahead 14-12 at the 12:30 mark. A 6-0 run from LTU, coupled with a four-minute scoring drought from the visitors, put the hosts back ahead by four with 9:55 to play in the half. The two sides traded baskets over the next few minutes before the Orange and Black went on a 12-3 spurt to close out the half with a 35-28 lead, with back-to-back three-pointers from Dylan Phair capping the run.

The Warriors got their lead up to 10 points with 17:08 to play in the second, but a 9-0 run from the Blue Devils cut the deficit down to with 14:15 on the clock. Tech came right back with a 12-3 spurt to push the advantage back up to 10 points at the 9:45 mark. The Orange and Black continued to hold the lead over the next few minutes and led by 11 with 3:45 to go, but the Blue Devils showed no quit in them. A 13-4 spurt from the hosts put them down by just three points with 39 seconds to play in regulation, but the visitors would go 4-6 from the free throw line in last 30 seconds to ice the game and come away with the hard-fought win.

Tech (8-4, 5-0 WHAC) returns to action next Saturday as they host defending WHAC Champion and No. 9-ranked Cornerstone in a Top-25 showdown. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
