LIVONIA, Mich. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Madonna University, 82-73, on Saturday afternoon inside the Activities Center.
Logan Primerano scored a team-high 26 points and went 6-11 from three-point range while adding five rebounds and two assists.
Dylan Phair chipped in 16 points and three rebounds while
Darren Groves collected his 10
th straight double-double, and 11
th of the season, with 13 points and 16 rebounds while dishing out four assists.
The Warriors got out of the gates with an 11-4 spurt following five quick points from
Joel Wincowski and back-to-back three-pointers from Phair. Tech grew their lead up to nine points with 12:08 to play in the first half, but the Crusaders battled back to cut the deficit down to two points at 25-23 with 5:27 on the clock. Five straight points from Groves put the visitors back up by seven and while the hosts made it a one-point game, Tech countered with a 5-0 run before taking a 35-31 lead into halftime.
Madonna opened the second half on a 9-2 run to take a 40-37 lead at the 17:03 mark, but back-to-back triples from Primerano put the Orange and Black up 43-42 just under a minute later. The two sides would trade leads over the next three minutes before a 10-0 run from the Crusaders put the hosts ahead 59-51 at the 7:32 mark in the half. Madonna would extend their lead to as many as eight points late in the half, but the Warriors went on a 9-5 run to cut the deficit to 71-69 with 1:44 to play in the game.
A triple from the hosts would put them ahead by five with 1:18 to go and while a jumper from Phair made it a 74-71 game with 57 seconds left on the clock, Madonna would go 8-8 from the free throw line over the final 31 seconds to ice the game away and snap Tech's eight-game winning streak.
Tech (9-5, 6-1 WHAC) returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Lakeland, Florida for a battle with No. 8-ranked Southeastern University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from the Furnace.
