Tech Snaps Losing Skid with Win over Bobcats

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated Saint Thomas University, 81-68, on Thursday evening in nonconference action at the Fernandez Family Center to snap a two-game losing skid.

Dylan Phair led the Warriors with 23 points while Logan Primerano collected his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals. Darren Groves recorded his 13th double-double of the season, and 12th in a row, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Groves now ranks second in the NAIA in double-doubles.

The two teams went back and forth over the first eight minutes of the game with seven lead changes over a three-minute stretch of play. The Warriors got out to a 7-2 lead at the 17:32 mark, but a 9-2 run from the Bobcats would give the hosts an 11-9 lead at the 15:13 mark. The lead would trade sides over the next four possessions before a fast-break layup from Primerano knotted the game up at 16-all with 13:19 on the clock. That would start a 9-0 run from the visitors to go ahead 23-16 while the Orange and Black would hold Saint Thomas scoreless for a 5:57 stretch.

The Bobcats would break the drought at the 7:57 mark that started a 10-2 run and put the hosts ahead 26-25 at the 4:56 mark in the half. An 11-2 spurt from Tech, coupled with a two-minute scoring drought for the Bobcats, put the Warriors ahead 36-28 at the half.

Saint Thomas cut the deficit down to six points at 42-36 just five minutes into the second half, but an 11-3 run from Tech, with Phair scoring eight of the points, made it a 56-43 game with 11:08 to play. The Warriors continued to hold off attacks from the Bobcats over the last 10 minutes of the game and never led the lead fall under seven points while the Orange and Black used a 9-5 run over the final 1:40 to ice the game away to secure their 10th win of the season.

Tech (10-6) returns to action on Friday, December 28 as they conclude their nonconference slate with a battle against No. 4-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University and the end of a four-game road trip. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from Luckey Arena.
