Strong Defensive Start Propels Warriors to Rout of Nighthawks, Extends Winning Streak to 13 Games

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 13 games on Thursday afternoon as they defeated Thomas University, 78-33, in their first game of the SEU Invitational inside The Furnace.
 
Kendall Knapke recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds while adding three assists and two steals. DeAnn Kauffman chipped in 13 points while Alexis Hill notched her second double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and collected four assist and two steals.
 
The Warriors jumped out of the game with a 7-0 run before the Nighthawks answered right back with a 4-0 spurt. Tech turned up the intensity on defense as they shut out Thomas in the final 6:21 of the first quarter and while using a 12-0 run to take a commanding 19-4 lead. The Orange and Black would force seven turnovers in the period while holding Thomas to just 1-14 shooting from the field.
 
The Nighthawks cut the deficit down to 19-9 at the 7:28 mark in the second following a 5-0 spurt to begin the period, but Tech would hold serve and now allow their foes to erase the double-digit advantage thanks to a 7-2 run over the last 1:45 of the half. The Warriors would force another five turnovers while holding the Nighthawks to just 25% shooting in the period to take a 31-16 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
The Warriors would put the game away in the third quarter thanks to a 10-0 run and another display of stifling defense. Tech outscored Thomas 20-8 in the period while the Nighthawks went just 4-16 from the field in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
 
The fourth quarter would belong to Kauffman who scored 11 points four minutes of action, going 4-4 from the field and 2-2 from downtown while the Orange and Black limited Thomas to just 2-20 shooting from the field to collect their 13th straight win.
 
Tech (14-1) concludes their fall semester schedule on Friday as they take on No. 2-ranked Southeastern University, who is currently 11-0. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from The Furnace.
