FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH), 87-60, on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Schaefer Center in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.
Dylan Phair led all players with 26 points, 23 of which game in the first half, while adding four rebounds and two assists.
Darren Groves added 19 points and 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season while racking up five assists.
Joel Wincowski chipped in 13 points, five rebounds and three assists while
Scott Schwieterman had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Nic Williams rounded out Tech's double-digit scorers with 10 and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Warriors raced out to an 11-0 lead over UNOH in the first three and a half minutes of the game while Phair scored 11 of the Warriors first 16 points. Phair continued his dominant first half by going 9-12 from the field and 3-4 from behind the three-point line while he hit his first seven shots from the floor.
The Racers cut the deficit down to nine points at 16-7 with 13:38 on the clock, but the Orange and Black responded with a triple from Phair and never let the lead dip into single digits for the rest of the game. Tech extended its lead to as many as 24 in the half as they headed into the locker room leading 46-22.
The second half would mirror the first as the hosts used an 11-0 lead to kick things off, with Groves sending home two fast break dunks to bring the home crowd to their feet and put the Warriors ahead 57-22 with 16:27 to go in the game. Tech continued its stellar play down the stretch as they increased their advantage to as many as 37 to complete the season sweep of the Racers and secured a top-two spot in the conference standings.
Tech (23-5, 15-3 WHAC) concludes its regular season home slate Wednesday as they host Lawrence Tech in an 8 p.m. tip-off from the Schaefer Center. The game will also serve as the team's "Think Pink" game.
