DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team fell to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, 4-3, on Saturday evening at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.
"This was an exciting game to be on the bench for," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "It was back and forth and our guys had good pace, especially in the third period. The result wasn't what we wanted but sometimes that's the game. We'll continue to push the pace this week in practice."
The Wolverines would light the lamp first as Tyler Groat put the hosts ahead 1-0 at 18:43 in the first, but the Warriors responded with a goal from
Adam Vannelli at 3:49 in the second. UM-Dearborn answered back with three goals to close out the second though, scoring at 18:00 and 19:51 to head into the locker room leading 4-1 after 40 minutes of action.
Tech would not back down though, fighting back with goals from
Francesco Corona and
Adam Jonak at 10:44 and 19:09, respectively, to cut the deficit to one, but the Wolverines would hold on to the 4-3 win as they clinched the top seed in the inaugural WHAC Tournament next month in Fort Wayne.
Zach Larson made 32 saves in net while Corona,
Nick Papandrea,
Taylor Jones all recorded assists.
Tech (18-7-2) returns to action Friday as they travel to Waldorf for a two-game set. Puck drop is set for 8:30 EST from Albert Lea City Arena in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
