Cardinals Quiet Warrior Offense in Regular Season Finale

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Concordia, 63-51, on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Gymnasium to conclude their 2018 regular season slate.

Haley Cook led the Warriors with a team-high 11 points, while Baylee Rinehart came off the bench to add nine points. Keanna Gary added eight points with nine rebounds and DeAnn Kauffman followed behind with six points and four rebounds of her own.

The contest proved to be an offensive struggle for both teams with the Warriors shooting just 33.3% from the floor and hitting just two of 19 three-pointers, while Concordia shot 30.2% from the field, but managed to find success at the line, going a perfect 14-14.

Tech found themselves in the lead early in the opening quarter with a three from Cook to quickly grab a 5-0 advantage. Their lead would give way to an eventual 9-9 tie at the 3:51 mark, starting a two minute scoreless streak for both teams. Kauffman grabbed a score to put the Warriors within one, 14-13, with 20 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, but it was Concordia who would hold the 16-13 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of action.

The Cardinals slowly grew their lead into the second quarter with a 20-15 score at the 6:16 mark, but a basket from Rachel Bell helped Tech to just a three point deficit. Concordia heated up offensively to jump ahead 27-20 with just under two minutes before the break. After finding themselves down by as much as 13, the Warriors would head to the locker room trailing 37-24 at the half.

The Warriors would go cold on offense heading into the third quarter behind just seven points in the 10 minutes of action. Concordia would take advantage and eventually go ahead 46-26 at the 5:42 mark. A pair of free throws from Cook put the Orange and Black behind 55-31 at the end of three periods.

A three from Rinehart helped kick off some offensive momentum for the Warriors as they entered the final quarter of regulation. Tech cut down Concordia's largest quarter lead by 10 as they trailed 49-63, but it would be the Cardinals who would take the 63-51 victory.

The Warriors (27-3, 18-2 WHAC) will begin the WHAC Tournament this Thursday as the top seed when they host eight-seeded Madonna in the quarterfinals at the Schaefer Center with tip set for 7 p.m.
