BRIGHTON, Mich. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season in dominant style Saturday night as they defeated Cleary, 33-0, at the Legacy Center.
Brandon Phipps and
Brandon Gates each scored seven goals while
Brayden Givens notched six goals. Jake Marquardt and Brandon Schmel both recorded hat tricks while
Joe Dosen made two saves in net and combined with
Evans Schuster for the shutout.
Noah Puckett dished out a career-best 11 assists while
Andrew Neller picked up a game-high 15 ground balls and went 21-27 inside the faceoff circle.
The Warriors were in charge from the opening faceoff, scoring five times in the first quarter and tacking on eight more scores in the second to take a 13-0 lead into halftime. The scoring barrage continued into the second half with the Orange and Black outscoring the Cougars 12-0 in the final 15 minutes to start the season off with the win.
Tech (1-0) returns to action on Sunday, February 25 as they travel to Davenport, Iowa for a battle with Saint Ambrose. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. EST from St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
