Warriors Fall to Grizzlies in Extra Innings

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team fell to No. 12-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College in 10 innings, 4-3, in their spring opener at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

Matt Bandor, Taylor Nychyk and Brandon Burch each drove in a run for the Warriors, with Burch notching a stolen base as well. Nate McBroom went 5.2 innings on the bump and allowed just two ones (one earned) while striking out three.

Bandor gave the Warriors the lead in the top of the first as he knocked in Glen McClain, who reached two batters earlier on an infield single. A sacrifice fly from Nychyk and a single from Burch gave Tech a 3-0 lead in the fourth, but an error and a triple in the bottom half of the inning allowed the Grizzlies to cut the deficit down to 3-2.

Both pitching staffs would hold the opposing bats at bay for the next five innings, with the Warriors' Joe Pratt striking out a pair of batters in 3.1 innings of work. A fielding error in the bottom of the ninth allowed Georgia Gwinnett to get the leadoff man to second base before a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly drove in the tying run two batters later.

The Orange and Black got runners to first and second with two outs in the top of the 10th, but the Grizzlies would get out of the jam before taking advantage of a two-out error from the Warriors with the bases loaded to take the first game of the series, 4-3.

Tech (5-2) concludes its three-game set with Georgia Gwinnet with a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. from the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
