GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team exploded for 11 second half goals in route to defeating the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Georgetown College Tigers, 18-9, in a nonconference matchup at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Kentucky Thursday evening.
The Warriors opened the scoring just over four minutes into the contest when senior
Kristina Scott launched the first of her two goals past the home goalkeeper. The Black and Orange would concede their first goal moments later, responding quickly with back-to-back goals of their own from seniors
Sam Vikstrom and
Dakota Dawson. From there, the visiting side would find the net four more times in the first half to take a 7-4 advantage into the intermission.
The Indiana Tech offense roared to life following the break, netting three consecutive goals, one by junior
Jennifer Banks and two more from Vikstrom, in the first five minutes of the stanza. After two more scoring strikes by Georgetown, the Warriors widened their advantage to eight with four successive goals. The back-and-forth scoring would continue as the Tigers struck three straight times to respond, but the visitors would cap off the night with four insurance tallies before the final whistle blew.
Indiana Tech was led offensively by Vikstrom and junior
Bailey Childs who each registered four goals in the contest. Sophomore
McKenna Mesclier and Banks would contribute three strikes each while the latter would lead the team with two assists on the evening. Junior goalkeeper
Sydney Davis would record the win in net and post four saves to aid in the defensive effort.
The Warriors never trailed in the victory, which marks the first win over a nationally-ranked top-10 opponent this season.
Indiana Tech will return to action on Saturday, March 24 when they face off against the NAIA's top-ranked SCAD-Savannah Bees. The matchup is set for an 11 a.m. start at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Kentucky.
