Tech Drops Pair of Games to Trojans

UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Taylor University on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-3, in game one, and dropping the final game, 5-2, at Gudakunst Field.

The Warriors would strike first in the contest after Emily Martin's double to deep right-center brought home Marta Pasqualini, but it was Taylor who made a statement with a five spot in the bottom half of the second to go ahead 5-1. Tech attempted to slowly chip away at the Trojan's lead, adding their second run of the game in the fourth off a Pasqualini to cut the deficit to 5-2. A homerun would lead off the bottom of the fourth for the Trojans, one of two runs that inning, pushing them ahead 7-2. Another Taylor run in the fifth pushed to the lead to 8-2, and while an RB from Ali LeNoue made it an 8-3 game, it was not enough for the visitors as they fell by that score.

Pasqualini would end the game going 2-4 with one RBI, while LeNoue finished 2-2 also recording one RBI for the Warriors. Martin rounded out Tech's offense 2-3 with one run.
Sarah Ratledge took the loss for the Orange and Black after pitching 1.1 innings, allowing four walks and four runs, all of which were earned.

Game two would prove to be a pitchers dual as Ashley Alvey took the circle, giving up just one hit through four innings. Tech would break the 0-0 lock in their half of the fifth as Caitlyn Walter knocked in Alvey off a double to deep left. Pasqualini would turn around and bring Walter home on another double for the Warriors, providing them with a 2-0 advantage. Taylor answered the Orange and Black's offense immediately in the bottom of the fifth as they recorded three runs. The Trojans would go on to add two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to ultimately take the 5-2 decision.

Pasqualini would finish the contest 1-2 and Walter would end 1-3 both players recording an RBI. Despite the strong outing, Alvey would take the loss for the Warriors after pitching six innings of work, allowing five runs, all earned, on seven hits.

Tech (0-7) returns to action on Saturday as they open the Tucson Invitational Games with Dakota State University with first pitch set for 11 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Regional Park.
