WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon as they were defeated by No. 9-ranked Keiser, 13-12, at Arrigo-Vecellio Field.
In a back-and-forth affair between two of the best teams in the nation, neither side was able to hold more than a two-goal lead while there were 12 ties in the contest.
Trailing 12-11 with 8:13 to play in the game, the Warriors tied the game up at 12-12 with 2:23 to play in regulation with a goal from
Dakota Dawson. Tech won the ensuing draw control, but a turnover led to a clear and a free-position shot for the Seahawks and Kyli Towner was able to beat Tech keeper
Sydney Davis for the game-winning goal with 60 seconds on the clock.
The hosts won the draw, but two-time Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Defensive Player of the Year
Sam Vikstrom caused a turnover to give the Warriors a shot at the tie, but the shot from
Kristina Scott was stopped by Mary Reich to preserve the win for Keiser.
Bailey Childs and
Heidi Tremaine each recorded a hat trick with the latter tacking on two assists while Vikstrom notched five draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Davis made 15 saves in the loss.
Tech (3-1) returns to action on Monday as they take on Ave Maria University. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m. from Gyrene Field.
