AVE MARIA, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team defeated Ave Maria, 20-9, on Monday afternoon at Gyrene Field.
The Warriors took a quick 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game, but the Gyrenes responded with a pair of goals at the 25:30 and 24:35 marks to knot the game up at 2-2. Tech answered back quickly goals from
Sam Vikstrom and
Bailey Childs to make it a 4-2 game with 21:39 remaining in the first half.
The hosts cut the deficit to one at the 12:29 mark, but a score from
Kristina Scott two minutes later started a 5-0 run to end the half and give the Orange and Black a 9-3 lead at the break. Ave Maria scored three times in the opening three minutes of the second half to make it a 10-6 game, but a 4-0 run from Tech pushed their lead to 14-6 and they never let the lead get under seven for the rest of the game and cruised to the 20-9 victory.
Vikstrom and
Dakota Dawson led the Warriors with five goals each, with the former adding seven draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Child and Scott each dished out three assists while combining for five goals.
Sydney Davis made two saves in net to pick up the win.
Tech (4-1) returns to action Thursday as they travel to NCAA Division III foe Benedictine University for a 5 p.m. opening draw at the Village of Lisle-BU Sports Complex.
