Warriors Roll Past Wolverines, Claim 12th Straight Victory

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball program pushed its current win streak to 12 games Thursday afternoon, sweeping the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a pair of conference affairs, 13-3 (F/7) and 10-0 (F/7), at Warrior Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Wolverines tested the Warriors early in the doubleheader by plating all three of their game one runs in the opening stanza. Tech would answer back quickly in their own half of the frame, starting with a Matt Bandor big fly to center field. Tighe Koehring and Bobby Bennett added RBI hits in the inning while Dante Biagini recorded an RBI via a hit by pitch to give the Warriors a 4-3 advantage.

The Orange and Black continued the offensive roll in the second when Ryan Meisenheimer singled home Bandor. The Warriors would tally six more runs spread across the third, fourth, and fifth frames before Bandor crushed a two-run bomb in the sixth for his second home run of the day to cap the double-digit victory.

In addition to his pair of home runs, Bandor would register three runs scored and three RBI to pace the Warrior offense in game one. Meanwhile, his teammates Reese Olden, Tighe Koehring, Taylor Nychyk, and Meisenheimer notched two-hit outings and Nychyk added a multi-RBI effort. On the mound, Joe Wolf was awarded his fourth win of the season following a start in which he gave up just three earned runs and five hits.

In game two, the Warriors were victorious due in large part to a combined shutout from Charles Dunavan, Zach Reid, and RJ Gaines. Dunavan rattled off five scoreless innings, picking up five strikeouts while giving up just three hits to earn his first win in as many appearances. Reid and Gaines each tossed a scoreless inning with the only remaining Wolverine hit being a double off the former in the top of the sixth.

Offensively, Indiana Tech would post four solo home runs in game two to power the offense. The Warriors opened the second contest with the first two home runs produced back-to-back by Glen McClain and Koehring in the bottom of the first. The home side would go on to score two runs each in the second and third stanzas before Meisenheimer and Bennett crushed the remaining two home runs consecutively in the fifth. The Warriors walked in two runs in the sixth inning to help enforce the 10-run mercy rule for the second time Thursday afternoon.

Indiana Tech (26-14, 17-2 WHAC) will return to action Friday, April 13 against Rochester College in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tripleheader. Each game will be seven innings in length per league rules. First pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m. at Warrior Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
