Tech Sweeps Rochester in Tripleheader to Improve Win Streak to 15 Games

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball improved their winning streak to 15 games on Friday as they swept Rochester in a tripleheader at Warrior Field, winning 13-2, 15-3 and 15-2 in the seven-inning contests.

Tech's offense was working early and often against the visitors as they hit .443 as a team while producing 39 hits, with 10 of those leaving the park. Bobby Bennett had one of the more impressive stat lines of the day as he hit .889 with five home runs and 10 RBI's, while Glen McClain hit .750 with a double and two home runs and drove in eight.

Game one saw the Warriors score in every inning but the sixth, and they put up three runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings. Taylor Nychyk started off the scoring with an RBI single to score Matt Bandor and McClain in the bottom of the first, while Bennett hit his first home run of the day in the fourth. The offensive explosion was more than enough for starter Nate McBroom, who improved to 6-2 on the season with five inning performance in which he allowed just five hits and two runs, one earned, while Austin Kemp allowed just one hit over the final two innings of play.

The Orange and Black began to hit their stride in game two as McClain and Ryan Meisenheimer both launched long bombs in the first while McClain hit his second bomb of the game in the second. Bennett would smash a two-run dinger in the second as well before driving one over the right-center field scoreboard to make it an 11-1 game in the fourth. Kelvin Flores and Shoma Sasaki also went yard in the game while Jason Sterrett won his seventh game of the season after allowing a single run on two hits in four innings of work and struck out five.

Rochester took their first and only lead in any game with a two-run homer in the first, but a Bandor RBI double and Bennett two-RBI single gave the hosts a 3-2 lead after their first trip to the plate. Bennett capped his day with a solo shot in the fourth and a moonshot three-run homer in the fifth that hit the top of Oropeza Hall in the left-center field background.

Tanner Perkins earned his first win of the season after going four innings on the mound while Jared Harvey picked up the save by going the final three innings and striking out six.

Tech (29-14, 20-2 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, April 18 as they conclude the eight-game homestand with a visit from Goshen College. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Warrior Field.
