Warriors Topple Blue Devils in Top-Five Battle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse program rallied from a 6-4 halftime deficit to upset No. 3-ranked Lawrence Tech, 15-12, on Saturday afternoon in a clash of top-five teams in the NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll.

The Blue Devils bolted out to a 5-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes at Warrior Athletic Field due in large part to the play of goaltender Dorie Coggin, who held Tech to a one-for-five mark on free-position shots and made eight saves in the first half. Despite the tough start offensively, the Warriors refused to give up as minutes later Bailey Childs, Kristina Scott, and Sarah Bates netted three successive goals to jumpstart the scoring. The home side would trail by just one with five minutes left in the half before Lawrence Tech's Teagan Laier responded right before the intermission.

Following the break, Childs and Scott would each find the scoresheet once more to exchange two goals with Lawrence Tech. Trailing 8-6, a resurgent Warrior offense took command with less than 22 minutes to play in the contest. Indiana Tech would record eight straight goals scored by Bates, Childs, Scott, and senior Sam Vikstrom to lead 14-8 over the Blue Devils. Lawrence Tech made the closing moments interesting, scoring four consecutive goals of their own before Bates added an exclamation point to the victory.

The Warriors were guided offensively by Scott who registered five goals while Bates and Childs tallied four each. The remaining Orange and Black scores were supplied by Vikstrom and Jennifer Banks. Vikstrom would also lead Indiana Tech with three assists and six caused turnovers. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sydney Davis tallied nine saves and recorded her 12th win of the season in net.

With the win, the Warriors have won eight straight contests and their second straight over a nationally-ranked opponent.

Indiana Tech (13-2, 5-0 WHAC) steps away from Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play when they travel to Indianapolis, Indiana next Wednesday, April 18 to face off against Marian University. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at St. Vincent Field.
