Warriors Victorious in Nonconference Finale

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors closed the curtain on their 2018 nonconference slate Wednesday evening, upending Marian University, 19-8, at St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Senior attacker Dakota Dawson quickly provided the opening score for the visitors, netting an unassisted goal three minutes into the contest. The Knights, who kept the affair close early in the first half, responded with a strike of their own two minutes later before junior Bailey Childs and senior Sam Vikstrom created a 3-1 advantage. Shortly thereafter, the Warriors rattled off seven consecutive strikes from six different scorers in route to a 12-4 halftime cushion.

Following the intermission, the Warriors notched four successive goals. The run, which spanned the first 10 minutes of the second half, included goals from senior Kristina Scott, junior Jennifer Banks, freshman Unitie Jarvis, and Childs. The Knights attempted to start a late rally as the game's leading scorer, Kori Garland, netted a pair of shots to end Marian University's scoring drought and trim the deficit to 16-6. However, Tech would tack on three insurance goals in the closing 15 minutes to capture the road victory.

The 19-goal outing produced many offensive highlights for Indiana Tech, which included owning a 33-14 advantage in total shots throughout the evening. Vikstrom and Childs would lead the Warrior charge as they each registered four goals and four assists in the matchup. Banks would add three scores while Dawson, Scott, and senior Sarah Bates also supplied multi-goal efforts. Defensively, junior goalkeeper Sydney Davis tallied a team-best four ground balls and registered four saves to pick up her 13th win of the season in net.

Wednesday's triumph marks the Warriors' ninth straight win overall and their fifth straight victory on the road this season.

Indiana Tech (14-2, 5-0 WHAC) will return home Saturday afternoon to face off against No. 9-ranked Aquinas College in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action. The contest will also serve as the program's 2018 Senior Day. The regular season finale is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
