Warriors Split with Saints to Open Three-Game Day

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team split their first two games of a three-game day that started at Siena Heights University on Thursday afternoon, falling in five innings in game one, 9-1, before taking game two,  6-3, at Christensen Memorial Softball Field.

An RBI single from Ashely Alvey knotted game one at 1-1 in the fourth, but the Saints came right back with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-1 lead to chase Alvey from the circle. SHU closed the door on the Warriors in the fifth as three singles and a pair of walks to push across three more runs to invoke the eight-run mercy rule with the 9-1 win.

Brianna Glass and Sarah Cummings each stole a base while Alvey took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits and three walks.

Tech's offense broke out in game two with five runs in the second as they used four hits, one error and one hit batter, to take a 5-0 lead over the hosts. Caitlyn Walter provided the big swing with a bases-clearing RBI triple while back-to-back doubles from Emily Martin and Carolyn Murrey score Walter and Martin to cap the scoring in the frame.

Glass made it a 6-0 game in the third who scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a Saint error and stealing second. SHU cut the deficit in half in the fourth, but that's all they would get off starter Amanda Shonka, who went the distance in the circle and scatted nine hits across the seven innings and struck out four batters.

Tech (7-26, 5-6 WHAC) concludes their day with a contest against Lourdes as the two teams will make up the postponed second game of their doubleheader from Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 9 p.m. from Pacesetter Park in Sylvania, Ohio.
