SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech softball team defeated Lourdes, 7-4, on Thursday evening at Pacesetter Park to complete the sweep of their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foes and finish a three-game day 2-1 after splitting with Siena Heights earlier in the day.
The win gives Tech six victories in WHAC play, their most in a season since 2012 when they won six as well.
The Warriors found themselves trailing 1-0 after the top of the third following an RBI single from the Gray Wolves, but Tech came back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own as
Kelsey Reinhardt scorched one down the left field line to plate
Ali LeNoue and
Caitlyn Walter. Lourdes answered with two runs in the fourth to retake the lead at 3-2, but a single from
Emily Martin drove in a pair of runs of the Orange and Black after a 10-pitch at-bat to make it a 4-3 game.
Nicolle Sierra made it a 5-3 lead with an RBI double in next at-bat.
The visitors on the scoreboard cut the deficit down to 5-4 in the fifth, but the Warriors tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as
Emily Martin tripled to score Walter while Reinhardt knocked in Martin with a single for her third RBI of the game.
Ashley Alvey worked around back-to-back two-out singles in the seventh to finish off the complete game and earn her first collegiate win with seven strikeouts.
Martin and Reinhardt both finished with three RBI's with the former going 3-4 at the dish while the latter was 2-4.
Tech (8-26, 6-6 WHAC) returns to action Thursday as they travel to Palos Heights, Illinois for a nonconference doubleheader with Trinity Christian. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. EDT from the George and June Schaaf Athletics Complex.
