FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis program swept all three doubles matches in route to a 6-3 victory over the Marian University Knights at Swinney Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Warriors bolted out to an early 3-0 advantage over their guests following doubles play. The third-flight pairing of
Pablo Bono and
Alvaro Gomez kicked off the nonconference affair by claiming an 8-2 victory. The number one doubles team of
Brunno Storani and
Tiago Neves escaped their doubles competition with an 8-6 decision while the second-flight team of
Alvaro Garrido and
Rui Lima picked up the remaining doubles match 9-7.
The Knights responded quickly in singles action as the first two decisions at number two and number four singles went to the visitors. However, the short run would end when Tech's
Lucas Braga notched a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-1) at number six singles. The Warriors would go on to clinch the weekend duel when Storani came back to claim his top-flight matchup after being blanked in the first set (0-6, 7-5, 6-0). Garrido upended his opponent (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) at number three singles to cap off the victory over Marian University, a program currently receiving votes in the national polls.
Indiana Tech (7-12, 1-3 WHAC) is scheduled to return to action Monday, April 23 when they travel to Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Indiana to battle Bethel College. The nonconference affair is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
