GRANGER, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis program upended nonconference foe Bethel College Monday afternoon, blanking the Pilots, 9-0, at Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Indiana.
The Warriors began the early-week affair by sweeping all three doubles matches to create a 3-0 cushion before advancing to singles play. The duo of
Alvaro Garrido and
Rui Lima started the run with an 8-3 triumph at number two doubles before the top-flight doubles pairing of
Brunno Storani and
Tiago Neves claimed an 8-4 decision. Not to be outdone by their teammates,
Alvaro Gomez and
Pablo Bono registered an 8-3 win at number three doubles to cap the first three matches.
Tech would also cruise through singles action as all six matches were decided in straight sets, headlined by Bono's double-bagel win at number five singles. Meanwhile, Storani claimed his top-flight battle 6-4, 6-0 while Garrido knocked off Jose Morales 6-4, 6-1 at number two singles. In number three singles play, Lima nearly added another double-bagel victory, dropping just three games in route to a 6-1, 6-2 final. Sophomore
Lucas Braga won his lone match of the day 7-6 (5-0), 6-2 at number five singles and Gomez closed the outing with a 6-3, 6-4 match.
Indiana Tech (8-12, 1-3 WHAC) will conclude its regular season campaign on Wednesday, April 25 when they host Concordia (Mich.) in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. First serve is set for 1:15 p.m. at Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
