FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team completed the season sweep of nonconference foe Manchester University Wednesday evening, defeating the Spartans 8-4 at Warrior Field.
Manchester struck first with a single run in their half of the opening frame, but the Warriors answered back as
Brandon Burch and
Reese Olden took advantage of a Spartan error to score and make it a 2-1 Tech lead. The Orange and Black added a final run in the bottom of the first with a double from
Dillin Diehm that plated
Ryan Meisenheimer following another Manchester error.
The Warriors led off the bottom half of the third with a pair of singles from
Matt Bandor and Koehring to put runners on the corners with just one man away. Meisenheimer would go to work again as he brought home Bandor with a single through the right side to provide the 4-1 advantage. Diehm followed up the offense from Meisenheimer with a single down the right field line to bring Koehring around to score, granting a 5-1 lead.
After putting up an early run to lead off the game, Manchester began to make some noise after a quiet middle half of the contest, cutting into the Orange and Black lead in the fifth and making it a 5-4 contest. Meisenheimer would again come through for the Warriors offense as he sent a shot down the right field line for a triple and then found his way home after a throwing error from the right fielder to make it a 6-4 Warrior lead.
Tech rounded out their offensive efforts in the bottom of the eighth after
Dante Biagini reach base with a single out to center and eventually came home on a Koehring sacrifice fly for the 7-4 score. Meisenheimer concluded his night with a single out to center to bring pinch-runner
Jarrett Lopez home for the final run of the contest.
Tanner Perkins would get the win for the Warriors after his four innings of work would see him allowing one earned run on three hits.
Tech (33-17) returns to action Saturday as they head to Adrian, Michigan for a doubleheader against Siena Heights with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
