LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team was swept by Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Lawrence Tech on Sunday afternoon at University Field, falling in game one, 6-1, and game two, 9-6, in their first action since March 28.
The Blue Devils jumped out all over the Warriors in the first two innings of the day as they scored twice in the first and second and chased starter
Amanda Shonka after 1.2 innings of work. LTU added two more runs in the fourth inning to make it a 6-0 game and while
Nicolle Sierra got Tech on the scoreboard in the seventh with an RBI double, it would not be enough as the hosts took game one, 6-1.
The Orange and Black would be the ones to get ahead quickly in game two as
Bailey Dembinski scored on a sacrifice fly while Sierra came around to score on a throwing error by the Blue Devils to put the visitors up 2-0.
Madison Ohnesorge drove in
Ashley Alvey in the second to put Tech up 3-0, but Lawrence Tech answered with a grand slam in the bottom of the frame before adding four more runs in the third to go ahead 8-3.
The Warriors pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth and cut the deficit to 9-6 after an RBI double from
Carolyn Murrey in the sixth, but the Blue Devils managed to escape with the win after Tech got the tying run to the plate in the seventh to complete the sweep.
Tech (3-23, 1-3 WHAC) returns to action on Monday as they battle Madonna. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. from University Field.
