FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team completed their regular season schedule Tuesday evening with an 11-3 victory over Cleary University in nonconference action at Warrior Field.
The Cougars took the lead right off the bat as William Lovell sent a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall in the first at-bat of the night off
Tanner Perkins, while the visitors capitalized on a pair of Tech errors to push across a second run and lead 2-0 after the top of the first.
Kelvin Flores cut the deficit to 2-1 with the first of his three home runs on the night with a bomb over the right-center field wall in the second, while he launched a two-run shot to right two innings later to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.
Flores extended the Warrior lead to 5-2 with another two-run homer, this time to straight-away center, in the sixth, to give the Tech pitching staff plenty of cushion in the bullpen day, with eight different pitchers trotting the rubber for the Orange and Black. The hosts tacked on three more runs in the seventh and eighth innings, with
Taylor Nychyk delivering a pinch-hit two-run homer to put Tech ahead 8-2 in the seventh.
Flores finished the day 3-5 with five RBI's while
Shoma Sasaki,
Branson Dossen and
Dillin Diehm each notching a pair of hits.
Adam Kowalski and
Zach Reid both recorded a pair of strikeouts, with the former and
Austin Eads having three-up, three-down frames.
Tech (38-18) now turns its attention to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament which is set to begin Thursday, May 3 from Fort Wayne and Lima, Ohio. The Warriors head into the tournament as the number one seed and await the loser of Concordia (Mich.) and Lawrence Tech at 3 p.m. for their first game of the day, while they will the winner of game one at 6 p.m. at Warrior Field.
